STEM North Texas Summer 2008 Conference

Dates: June 10-12, 2008

This three-day highly interactive conference focuses on the various STEM activities currently offered in the North Texas region. During this conference, participants will:

  • gather information from noted STEM industries in the North Texas area including National Instruments, Texas Instruments, Verizon, Exxon-Mobil and others;
  • learn about STEM related partners in the North Texas area including DFW S-TEC, the Museum of Dallas, the Dallas Arboretum, the Dallas Chamber, Region 10, and others;
  • listen to presentations from university partners such as Texas A&M University/NTSTEM Center, SMU, and the Infinity Project;
  • become more familiar with the noted STEM academies in the North Texas area;
  • develop a repertoire of teaching ideas from a national award-winning robotics teacher of the METSA academy;
  • get involved in a hands-on PBL activity with the North Texas STEM center;
  • learn collaboratively during  hands-on PBL from STEM academies.

The purpose of the session is to:

  • create awareness of the multiple STEM opportunities in the North Texas geographic region;
  • deepen knowledge of STEM content and pedagogy;
  • increase understanding of project-based learning (PBL).

The primary goal is to disseminate promising practices and research-based strategies for STEM teaching and learning.

Target Audience: Texas Math and Science Teachers in the North Texas Area and statewide; North Texas Area district and campus administrators
Cost: No cost
Stipend: $200 stipend to the first 100 off-contract participants who register and complete the 2½ days of the conference
